Newsletters and campaigns
A campaign is one email you send to many people at once: a monthly newsletter, a court closure, a summer offer. You write it once and SportyPlus sends a copy to everyone in its audience.
Campaigns live under Club Admin → Community → Emails. Choose Compose new to start one.
Choose the kind of email
Kind of email decides which switch people use to turn it off.
- News and announcements: what is happening at the club, such as closures, results and events.
- Offers and promotions: anything selling something, such as sales, memberships and packages.
Members turn news and promotions off separately. If you send an offer as news, it also reaches people who only agreed to hear about the club. Pick the kind that matches what you're sending.
Choose who receives it
Under Send to, choose one of two options.
Club users
Everyone at your club who matches the filter below. With no filter set, that's every member who has an email address. You can narrow it by:
- Role, such as admins or cashiers;
- Status: members, applicants or blocked;
- Membership type, when the status is members;
- Gender;
- Age: from, to, or both. Both ends are included, so 50 to 60 includes people aged 50 and 60. Members with no date of birth on file are left out when an age is set.
A mailing list
Choose a list from Mailing list. You can narrow it for this campaign only:
- On a subscriber list, enter tags to send only to subscribers with at least one of them. Leave tags empty to send to everyone on the list. Turn on Also filter by member details to use the same filters as above. Only subscribers who are club members can be filtered that way, so addresses without an account are left out.
- On a segment, use the filter to narrow the segment further.
Narrowing only ever removes people. It can't add anyone who isn't on the list.
To create a list, see Mailing lists.
Check who will receive it
The Who will receive this panel shows how many people will actually get the email, with a few example names. It's worked out the same way as the real send.
The first number is who will receive it. Below it, of … matched is everyone your choice selected. The difference is explained underneath:
- unsubscribed from this kind of email: they turned this kind of email off, or left the list;
- have no email address on file;
- are guests with a placeholder address: guests added to a booking without their own address, and addresses that bounced before;
- signed up and have not confirmed yet: they haven't opened the confirmation link yet;
- were already sent this campaign: shown when a send was interrupted and picks up again.
Write it
- Enter a Campaign name. Only you see it, in the list of campaigns.
- Enter a Title. This is the email's subject line.
- Enter a Preheader: the short line most inboxes show next to the subject.
- Write the Content. Use the insert menu to add personal details, such as the recipient's first name. The reference under the editor lists every placeholder.
The preview under the editor shows the email with your club's logo and name.
Test and send
- Send and email test sends the campaign to you, or to the addresses you enter. A test has no unsubscribe link.
- Save keeps it as a draft.
- Save and send now sends it straight away, after you confirm.
- To send it later, turn on Send later, pick a date and time, and choose Schedule. It goes out on its own at that time.
A campaign can only be sent once. Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom, and the most common email apps also show their own unsubscribe button.
